Welcome to the Emerald City!

Welcome to the Emerald City, Scrapbooking Friend!
It’s Christa & Ann here and we are so excited that you have registered to attend the fundraising crop to support dancers at Encore Dance Studio. The crop takes place on Saturday, September 27th at Gale Presbyterian Church, located at 10 Barnswallow Drive, Elmira ON N3B 0A8. We are pleased that this facility is accessible for those using walkers or wheelchairs, and the washrooms are on the main floor. Also, there are no stairs, so you will be able to just roll your supplies in!
The purpose of this email is to confirm your registration, welcome you to the crop, and to provide you with some helpful information so that we all have a great day! (If you registered on behalf of your friends, we do not have their email address, so please forward this info on to them).
The crop runs from 9 am – 9 pm, and you are free to arrive and leave as it suits you. We will open the door at 9:00 a.m.  (In previous years, we have set up the night before, as much as possible, and then opened earlier for move-in time, but this year we do not have access to the church until that morning, so we will be setting up in the morning.)
Let the fun begin! The theme for this year’s crop is Wizard of Oz. We look forward to seeing you dressed as your favourite character. There will be a costume contest (prizes anyone?) and photo booth, so dress up and let’s have some fun!
Once again, for the 5th year running, we are doing a food drive to support the local food bank. You will receive a draw ticket for each non-perishable food item you bring. I touched base with Woolwich Community Services and here are their suggestions (although your generosity is not limited to just this list):
Here is the Food Bank Top 10 Needed List
Instant Oatmeal
Canned Meats (chicken,turkey, ham)
Tuna
Salmon
Jam
Juice
Canned Fruit
Sugar
Side Kicks
Toilet Paper

Let’s be as generous as possible and help those around us who have to choose between paying for shelter or paying for food. We are blessed!
We are THRILLED to be joined again this year by MarjaLeise Deeth, a local Stampin’ Up Rep. MarjaLeise will be offering a make and take throughout the day! Just pop by her table whenever you’d like! She will have new catalogues and Christmas flyers with her, and lots of things to see, and perhaps purchase, along with her upcoming class schedule. Anyone need to get a headstart on Christmas cards???
Store:  As scrapbookers ourselves, we know how important it is to be able to get an adhesive refill, that perfect embellishment, or some new paper to get the creativity flowing. We are excited to have Janice Veltkamp set up her store, Scrapping Nook, for your shopping pleasure. Julie will gladly run a tab for you throughout the day, and she accepts Visa, MasterCard, and cash.
Food:  Throughout the day there will be coffee/tea/water available, along with small snacks. Lunch will be served around noon. A catered dinner will be provided around 5:30 pm. Please note that we make our best attempt to accommodate food allergies that we’ve been made aware of; we want you to have a great experience with us. If you have medical conditions that require strict diet regimes, we highly suggest you bring your own food – we’ll be happy to store it for you in the kitchen, and reheat it for mealtimes.
Prizes: We know how much fun it is to take home new scrappy stuff to keep the inspiration going (or to use right there at the crop!), so we have lots of opportunities to win stuff! Food bank draw, door prize draws throughout the day, prizes for games, and of course, our famous scavenger hunt!
The generosity of our donors has been amazing this year and they help really maximize the fundraising potential of this event.
 Raffle Table
View the items on display throughout the day. Ann and Christa will have an arm’s length of tickets available for $10, or $2 each. The draws will take place shortly after dinner. If you have to leave prior to drawing, we will help you get your prize, hopefully by sending it with a friend you came with.

NEW!! Silent Auction
We have been blessed with many non-scrappy donations as well, and are offering those via a silent auction. When the auction is declared closed, the highest bidder for each item will take the item home, after making payment by cash or cheque to the head bean counter of the lollipop guild (aka Ann).

Cropping Courtesies:
We all want to have fun and get some crafting accomplished. To ensure everyone enjoys their day, let’s agree to:
- be aware of how far we’re spreading out while we work
- be aware of our conversation so that the volume, language and subject matter won’t be something that would make our cropping neighbours uncomfortable
- food and drink should be under control so it does not collide with your neighbour’s carefully crafted memories
- leave your crop space tidy when you are done for the day
- feel free to wander around the room and admire the creative talents of your fellow scrappers, and if you see something you like, do not be afraid to ask how it was done. The majority of scrapbookers are proud to show off their artwork, and very willing to share a trick or technique.
- remember, we will have a few Band-Aids on hand if you encounter a paper cut, but the organizers, Encore Dance Studio, and Gale Presbyterian Church cannot be held responsible for your safety either at the church facility or when you leave the premises.
- your ticket to this fundraising event is non-refundable; if you are unable to attend after purchasing your ticket, you may transfer it to someone who can attend in your place
What Else to Pack:
__ items for the food bank
__ $$ for raffle tickets
__ $$ or cheque for silent auction
__credit card or cash for shopping at the onsite store
__ beverages with lid if you will want something besides the supplied coffee/tea/water
__ sweater (we are in a large gym, which may feel cool first thing in the morning and will likely warm up through the day – layered dress is suggested)
__ mp3 player if you like to scrap to your own music
__ Cushion. Twelve hours is a long time to sit and some scrapbookers find a small cushy for the tushy really helps to be comfortable.
How to get it all to the crop space? Rolling totes or rolling suitcases are great back savers!
Directions to Gale Presbyterian Church:
From the K-W area, drive to Elmira, and at the first set of lights (Tim Horton’s is on your right) turn LEFT onto Whippoorwill. Whippoorwill will curve and become Barnswallow. Follow Barnswallow to the end and the church is on your left, just past the field.
From the area north of Elmira, travel south on Arthur Street. Go through the lights and continue south through the downtown core. At the next lights, turn left onto First Street. At the second stop sign, turn right onto Barnswallow and follow it to the end. The church will be on your left, after the field. (These directions will detour you around town because the more direct route via Church Street is not possible due to construction.)
From the area west of Elmira, travel toward Elmira on the 85. You will pass Floradale Road and then enter the Elmira town limits. Turn right on Barnswallow and the church will be on your immediate right.
From the east (Guelph), take Elmira Road out to Elmira. At the main intersection of Church Street and Arthur, turn left onto Arthur and travel south through downtown. At the lights at First Street, turn right. At the second stop sign, turn right on Barnswallow and take Barnswallow to the end. The church will be on your left.

We’re looking forward to seeing you on Saturday! – Ann & Christa
